As the team at St Helens Bar & Burgers on Kirra Beach, we thought we’d take a look at what the Coolangatta and Kirra area has to offer on the burger front. This isn’t a review – just an honest rundown of the best burgers in Coolangatta, so you can find the right fit for any occasion.
St Helens Bar & Burgers – Kirra Beach

The beachfront location makes it the obvious choice for a meal with a view.
Eddies Grubhouse – Coolangatta/Tweed Border
Situated right on the NSW/QLD border near the Pink Hotel, Eddies is a rock ‘n’ roll bar with serious burger credentials. Ten burgers on the menu – 5 beef, 3 chicken, 2 vego – all served with fries. The Big Ed (2x120g patties, bacon, full trimmings) tops out at $32. Great bar atmosphere with regular live music and open mic nights. A strong pick if you want a feed with a bit of energy around it.
Grill’d – Marine Parade, Coolangatta
The national franchise that genuinely knows what it’s doing. A large rotating burger menu, detailed allergen breakdowns, shakes, and a diner feel. Prices sit between $14 and $19 – the most affordable dedicated burger option in the area. Good for families and dietary-conscious diners.
Bondi Grille – Marine Parade, Coolangatta
Primarily a steakhouse – ribs, cuts, the works – but the burger list is substantial: 15 options across regular and gourmet categories, all with 250g beef patties. No seafood or vego options, which fits the theme. Prices $20–$32.
Choofa’s Smokehouse & Seafood – Coolangatta
Just across from Eddies, Choofa’s is a Coolangatta staple. The burger section sits within a broader BBQ and seafood menu: 6 beef (200g patties), 3 seafood, and 2 chicken. Prices $19.50–$29.50. Solid value and a wide range.
4 Pines – Marine Parade
Primarily a brewery. Three burgers: beef, chicken, vego – all with fries, $23–$24. Worth knowing if you’re already there for a drink.
Pancake Diner – The Strand, Marine Parade
Breakfast-focused, but seven burgers on the menu (3 beef, 1 steak, 1 chicken, 1 pork, 1 veg), all served with fries. $21–$30. Note: the separate GF menu doesn’t include burgers.
Kirra Beach Hotel – Kirra
The refurbished Kirra Pub overlooks the beach and offers five burgers: 2 beef, 1 chicken, 1 fish, 1 tofu. Two gluten-free options available. Prices $25–$28. Prime location, relaxed pub setting.
Kirra Surf Club – Kirra
Built in 1916, the Kirra Surf Club has arguably the best views in the area. The burger menu closely mirrors the pub’s, with prices $22–$26. No gluten-free options apparent on the menu.
The Takeaway
Coolangatta and Kirra punch well above their weight for a beachside strip. Whether you’re after a casual pub meal, a craft burger with a view, or a full steakhouse experience with a burger on the side, there’s a solid option at every price point. We’re naturally biased – but we’d love you to start with us at St Helens and judge for yourself.
